Our Artists and Writers

Down to Work artists and writers reinterpret ancient beliefs that once stigmatized disability, transforming them into powerful stories and visuals of resilience. Through art and writing, they reclaim myths, challenge shame, and redefine what it means to be seen.

  • Our artists explore traditional stories and beliefs that once portrayed disability as shameful or incomplete.

  • Instead of recreating these tales, they use them as inspiration to create original visual art that reflects their own identity and experience.

  • Through symbols like tigers, ghosts, and moonlight, each piece becomes a personal response—reclaiming visibility, voice, and pride.

  • Our writers engage with ancient myths and superstitions that contributed to the stigma around disability.

  • They analyze the cultural meanings behind stories like the gwishin, gut rituals, and changeling children, then respond through essays, poems, and retellings.

  • Their writing transforms shame-based narratives into stories of strength, using language to challenge silence and reclaim belonging.
